Wrené transcends sound on expansive single, “Starlight (10hz Alpha Waves)”
Pivoting from the type of music that she’s made in the past, Wrené has absolutely mesmerized us on her latest single, “Starlight (10hz Alpha Waves)”. Please, keep reading for a closer look into the track, as well as a much needed background on this immensely talented artist.
Serving as the first entirely instrumental song in her ever growing discography, Wrené has gone off the deep end in creating something that feels futuristic, extraterrestrial, and ultimately jam packed with sounds and styles that we’ve never experienced before. The song is called “Starlight (10hz Alpha Waves)” and is riveting from the opening notes, but liberally takes twists and turns as the track goes on and things begin to open up and feel even more experimental. It had us literally on the edge of our seat, and with that, we cannot wait for everyone to get their ears on this.
According to Wrené who explained this best, the song contains “binaural beats- a phenomenon in the spiritual/meditation community. A 10hz frequency pulse - or 'Alpha Wave', commonly used to promote feelings of wellbeing, is creatively mixed with dynamic synths, evolving textures, and beautiful layered vocal pads”. Now if that doesn’t sound exotic, we truly don’t know what would be! With that being said though, a sincere recommendation before listening would be to grab your best headphones or listen to this on a soundsystem so as to not miss out on any of the subtleties within the rich production. There’s infinitely complex layers being presented that we honestly don’t think you’d be able to hear on one, two, or even three listens. “Starlight” holds a sonic density that has not only allowed us to fixate, but to also attempt to decipher everything happening around us.
Although she does claim there are some “abrasive” textures, which we can’t deny, you’ll also be lifted into a trance where the world almost stops around you and your focus becomes transfixed on what might happen next. Typically we find instrumental music as a whole to be extra difficult to grab a listener’s attention, but in this scenario, it is exactly what we look for in thinking outside the box and breaking the rules of mainstream music. Through nearly six minutes of groundbreaking sounds, we’re thrilled to now be able to go into Wrené’s back catalog and explore even more.
