Whitney Tai bares it all for the world on release of 2nd album, Apogee
Review by Austin Sher
Released officially by V13 Media on June 1st, Whitney Tai is back with another stunner of a pop album, titled Apogee. Apogee is the second release in Tai’s soon to be massive and successful discography.
The initial singles for Apogee were released earlier in 2020 and both were a wonderful pre-feeling to what was delivered on the full LP. One of our favorite parts of a single released before the album itself is delving into the world in which Tai was living in. What was going on in her life? What was she trying to communicate to us? The list of questions goes on and on. However, we loved what we heard on the releases for “Surrender” and “Righteous”.
Now onto the album itself; if you’re a fan of pop music or even on the fence about it, this will be the album that convinces you otherwise. It’s truly a fantastic piece of production that tickles the ears with new sounds and scapes, flowing wonderfully from track to track. I do have to talk about the production quality though, because it sounds so clear on a set of nice headphones. A huge shoutout to co-write and producer, Tim Janssens, for the superb production. He really hit it out of the park on this one. You instantly zone out from the craziness of the world we’re living in and enter a new realm composed by Whitney Tai. It’s a really wonderful feeling to be taken out of consciousness so easily by the power of music and strong lyricism. The lyricism especially speaks volumes as Tai and Janssens came together for a unique look on the world.
The hardest part of album reviews in general is that we want to avoid all spoilers for the reader. I’ll happily fill you in on our favorite overall tracks, but as for giving you insight to a specific moment in a song that stood out, you’ll just have to find out for yourself! As for favorite tracks, we instantly fell in love with the opener “Starfish”, “Meet Me On Melrose”, and “Electrified”. We think you will too!
Overall, I think we’ve made it fairly clear how we feel about the album. It’s lovely, it gives off calming yet intriguing vibes, and should be a regular listen in your upcoming lineup of music.
