The Night Drives return with new smooth jam, “The Weight”
Review by Austin Sher
Delivering their first song since 2019, The Night Drives are back with a laid back track, titled “The Weight”. The Sacramento, California based trio has proved once again they’ve got what it takes to take the next stop in their emerging careers.
While their online footprint and overall discography may leave you yearning for more, no need to worry, we’re hoping that “The Weight” is part of a much bigger project and hopefully full length LP for The Night Drives.
Looking directly at the artwork and then comparing it to the music, it syncs up near perfectly. The whooshing synthesizers give off a feeling of waves and an orange glow, quite similar to the art itself. We are really feeling what we’re hearing on this lead single. It’s light, airy, and is an instant head bobber. It doesn’t overstay its welcome at a 4 minute runtime and really only makes us wish there was more to listen to!
Considering their last released single, “I Know” was released over a year ago, we hope that the band has used this quarantine to their advantage. We feel that we’re probably going to be seeing a lot of projects being released over the next 6 months, due to all the down time, and are crossing our fingers an EP is to follow.
Wrapping it up, this track is fantastic. It was instantly added to all of our playlists and is the exact type of song I’d like to be playing while I sip fancy cocktails poolside. It screams summer, and with summer coming right around the corner, I know for a fact “The Weight” will be a repeated play at all the pool parties.
