Vasco let loose on rocking new single, "Villain"
With their first new single of 2021, Vasco are back with a fantastic piece of music on their latest, “Villain”. We’re loving it! Read along with us for our full and in-depth review of the track, as well as a background on the band as well.
Currently representing the Dallas music scene, Vasco are a 2000’s backyard rock inspired group that are bringing an ultimately fresh sound to the alternative scene. Following up a string of singles released last year, the band is back and better than ever thanks to the focus and drive they bring to their overall sound. According to the band, this song represents the beginning of a series of songs that revolve around relationships and emotions in the modern age.
Recorded, mixed, mastered, and produced by Vasco, they are also in the midst of representing other incredible artists within the Dallas Fort Worth region. We’ll kick things off here by openly stating how much we enjoyed listening to “Villain”. As lovers of all things alternative rock, our bar is typically set a bit higher than normal compared to other genres. With that being said, they’ve blown our expectations out of the water just on this one single and managed to attract new fans in the process.
At just a little over two and a half minutes in run time, this is just the type of succinct music that we like to hear. It gets to the point, keeps things interesting instrumentally, and features a breath of fresh air within a genre that tends to stay on the “samey” side of things. Featuring some really nice layered vocals with after effects, this song is certainly setting the bar high for the rest of this year’s intended releases.
While it looks to be that Vasco are releasing things on a single to single basis at this point, we loved the emotion and suspense that “Villain” brought so much that hearing a limited EP of work that centered around it would be really nice. While it’s obviously not our place to decide the trajectory of the band’s work, we think that because the track had such a lasting impression on us, we feel a part of it now. The real hope is that we can get listening to the next one as soon as it gets released.
Wrapping it up though, whether you’re a fan of rock and roll or not, this is absolutely the next single you need in your lineup of music listening. Inventive and original, it’s sure to put a smile on your face by the end of it. It so carefully yet delicately takes you back to that early to mid 2000’s sound, it’s almost as if you’ve entered a time machine.
