Seth Kessel slows things down on comforting track, "Dear Moon"

Shared officially on March 26th, 2021, Seth Kessel has bridged a modern sound with the classic and contemporary on his newest single, “Dear Moon”. Read along with us as we share our thoughts on the track, as well as a background on the artist.

Off of his upcoming album, Ride on Through (out June 25th), Seth Kessel has put together a lovely single titled “Dear Moon” that we’re adoring. Inspired by the likes of Elvis Presley, Django Reinhardt, and Bad Brains, Kessel has added his own signature flair to an underappreciated genre of music. Based out of New York City, the artist is a well traveled singer, songwriter, and beyond talented guitarist.

On “Dear Moon” specifically, the artist gave us the origin story by letting us know “This song is about living through the New York winters as an artist that stays up late each night. I wrote this after a stretch of not seeing daylight, only to leave the apartment in time to catch the moon staring back at me. I tried to capture the isolation and melancholy of how I was feeling in that moment by writing directly to the moon."

Reeling with raw emotion, complex lyricism, and a wholesome vintage sound, Seth Kessel has more than wowed us with the release of this all new single. Living in a world that is highly motivated by the newest, latest, and greatest, Kessel has slowed things down and ultimately brought the listener back to a slower and peaceful time, in terms of sound.

For us, “Dear Moon” is the type of song you’d throw on in the wee hours of the night, glass of preferred spirit in hand, wrapping up from a long day of work. It had a sense of maturity in it that we haven’t received from an artist in quite some time and really slowed our brains down for a bit, which is always appreciated in a fast paced world.

Seth’s vocals cannot be understated here either as they were classically smooth like velvet and subtly commanded the song under its melancholy instrumentation. It should be quite obvious by now, but we really did enjoy this song. It’s got us excited for the release of his full length because that’s just the type of relaxing and focused music we need in our lives at this point. If “Dear Moon” is any indication, Ride on Through is set to be incredible once it drops on June 25th.

For now though, do yourselves a huge favor and get into this latest track. While we recommend listening how we did, feel free to listen at your own convenience and pace. It’s a track that can still be enjoyed at all hours of the day and set your mood right.
