The Rayes expertly execute a vintage sound on "Two Legs"
Review by Austin Sher
Seeing its official release a little over a month ago on December 11th, 2020, The Rayes have shared their stunningly put together EP, Two Legs. Do yourselves a favor and read along with us as we share our thoughts on the record, in addition to a background on the artists as well.
Sister duo, The Rayes, are an incredibly creative and dynamic pair of performers that have seriously wowed with us with the release of Two Legs. Jordan and Rebecca Stobbe have taken a sound reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac and Led Zeppelin, to then effortlessly add in their own unique spin. Before we dig in, we’ll let you know that we highly recommend a listen.
Pairing a vintage sound with glimmers of folk and pop, these talented artists have culminated in a piece of art that can only be summed up as something truly special. Coming in at only a total of three tracks, spanning just a little over 7 minutes of beautiful runtime, The Rayes get their point across not only instrumentally, but lyrically as well.
For those who are listening for the first time, try to transport yourself emotionally to a simpler time, maybe something around the 1960’s or 70’s. After you’ve done that, then you’re primed for the ideal listen of Two Legs. Having been raised on this era of music, or at least stylistically, it oozes such creativity and a severe longing for the past. The stripped back production featuring basically only guitars and heavenly layered vocals, it just proves you really don’t need too much more than that to create something for the masses to love.
While this was our first deep dive into the music of this duo, it without a doubt will not be our last. Having been so impressed just listening to these three songs, we had no choice but to check out their 2016 full length, Charlie and the Rays. To no surprise in the slightest, it’s just as good. It’s got us incredibly excited for what’s to come, especially because it’s looking like another LP is set to be released sometime in 2021. No rush to the band though, take your time.
With this all being said, it should come across as clear by now that we’re highly suggesting you give Two Legs a listen. You just might find your new favorite band of the month, we know we have!
