The Corduroy Blue surpass our wildest expectations on self-titled debut album

This is easily some of the most fun we’ve had during an album listen in quite some time. Let us please introduce you to The Corduroy Blue and their self-titled debut record. Keep reading as we share our complete thoughts, as well as a background on the band.

Made up of two immensely talented brothers named Atticus & Luke Roness, The Corduroy Blue is an Atlanta-based rock band, but with an obvious flair that comes off immediately. Surpassing our wildest expectations on their debut record The Corduroy Blue, quickly you’re hit with a whopping dose of 70’s nostalgia and euphoric highs that keep giving and giving as the record shapes up to become the ideal listening experience. If this is your introduction to them, we can virtually guarantee you’re going to love it.

Coming in at a total of 11 songs that span right around the 45 minute mark, our initial impressions are just fast this zoomed by as it’s fully got that immersive nature about it. Though it’s certainly rooted in alternative rock, we think they did an impeccable job of fusing ideas and influences of the past, all the while bringing their sound into a modern era. Their influences like The Beatles or David Bowie speak for themselves, but even now they’ve got an eerily similar feel to another one of our favorite bands, The Lemon Twigs, who coincidentally are brothers. Moving on though, the Roness brothers complement each other in the best way possible, especially in the melodies are their spine-tingling harmonization. For us, that truly made itself the most apparent on “Somethin’ (in the way)”.

An unsuspecting surprise throughout the listen was the extreme amount of versatility that this record held too. At some points it feels like one of those laidback and carefree listens, but other tracks go off the rails in terms of energy like “Lonely Mind”. It’s that perfect sonic blend of pop and rock, an album that we could send our parents and they’d ask if we dug through their record collection. In honestly not trying to overhype this, we do really feel that it’s struck a chord with us personally because it’s exactly the type of music we enjoy in our off time. Not enough positives can be pointed out, and with that, we’re urging everyone once again to get into this.
