Tom Maroon returns to talk highly anticipated record, "Lowflyers" - Interview

Building off our stellar conversation from nearly 6 months ago, Tom Maroon made his way back to talk all about his long-awaited debut record, Lowflyers. Please enjoy our full conversation with the artist below.

Just in case you’re out of the loop, Tom Maroon is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer currently based out of Albany, New York. No stranger to music in the slightest, he’s been immersed in his scene for more than 13 years now and his attention to detail and craftsmanship is undoubtedly the first thing you’ll experience. Our last conversation covered the in’s and outs of his track “Lost & Found”, but thankfully Tom was kind enough to join once again to talk about the full project, Lowflyers. One thing is for sure, we think everyone out there is going to love this.

Ripping right by at a tight and succinct 30ish minutes that spans 10 tracks, Tom Maroon wastes no time whatsoever getting the listener into the groove. Though this record is certainly rooted in indie rock, he’s definitely pulled from a ton of influences, meanwhile adding his own signature feel and flair for a record that’s as original and fresh as it gets. A highlight of our conversation was getting to hear what a lot of these songs are actually about, although some are certainly clear if you connect the dots within the lyrics. Furthermore, the way that Tom manages to inflect his voice, along with the delivery and cadence, has the reminiscent feel of musical theater. If anything, it enthralls you as a listener and legitimately has you hanging on every word. Through so many fun and eclectic guitar solos, bombastic drums, and beyond, Lowflyers checks all of our personal boxes for what we consider to be a downright great album.

Among many major highlights was also the way that this record flows in its cohesiveness. A lot of songs are sonically different from one another, yet still hold that very specific emotion from track to track. We suppose it’s probably his voice that acts as the glue and constant, however the tone achieved in the instrumentation isn’t far behind either. Getting to hear the specifics and how this was created was the real cherry on top and we’re so thrilled that the people can finally click the play button.
