The Century Band deliver a nostalgic new single titled "January"

Released in December of 2022, but aptly titled “January”, The Century Band have made a valiant return with a seriously stellar new single. Keep reading as we share our complete thoughts on the track, in addition to a much needed background on this band.

Currently representing the music scene in Brooklyn, New York, The Century Band have confidently brought their folk rock vibes forth once again for a new one we’re loving called “January”. Featuring singer and songwriter Marc Delgado for their second ever song, they’ve also accompanied this release with a music video that gives a behind the scenes look into how it was recorded. Needless to say, we’re urging everyone out there to give this a spin as soon as possible.

Coming in at just a little under three minutes in runtime, The Century Band immediately immerses you in this very wintery feeling song, dripping in a nostalgic atmosphere. Instrumentally speaking, it’s quite impressive across the board in terms of the band members’ musicianship, but truly the slide guitar is what feels like it ties everything together and gives it an edge. Of course, there’s also a sincere, raw, and warm feeling that the vocals give off too, essentially having the listener hooked on every line as it’s passionately delivered. We took the opportunity to listen to the band’s debut “New York Song”, and it’s no surprise we thoroughly enjoyed it, but at this point we’re just wishing their catalog was bigger than it is. Hopefully 2023 is jam packed with new releases in a similar vein, mainly because it feels like this brand of folk rock is underappreciated and under-delivered as a whole.

On the background of the song’s meaning, The Century Band has said “January” is about “getting older and about life and loss and coming to terms with the natural world around you. It’s a song about feeling lost on your own journey through the inevitable but learning how to accept the wonder”. We mentioned that nostalgic feeling and honestly it has to do with the themes being covered, but also in the delicate way that they’re conveyed. They slowly paint this picture of an all too familiar situation no matter your age and effortlessly back it up with beauty from start to finish. Though of course we recommend you listen, checking out the music video further deepens the connection with a group of individuals who wholeheartedly deserve the spotlight.
