Genevieve Sovereign & Ben Tenison collaborate on IDM-inspired single, "Life Soaked Reveal"

Officially released on Christmas Day, this all new collaboration between Genevieve Sovereign and Ben Tenison is magnificent almost beyond words. Keep reading as we share our full thoughts on the track, as well as an update on the artists.

It’s been close to one year’s time since we last reviewed Genevieve Sovereign and her EP It’s Yours, but since then she’s been quite busy putting out more musical greatness into the world. On her second collaboration single with Ben Tenison, the two have dabbled once again into the realm of electronic/IDM music with an absolute thriller titled “Life Soaked Reveal”. It’s a masterclass in production and versatility of their vocals, which is exactly why we’re recommending everyone give it a listen as soon as possible.

Although it was released on Christmas, purposefully it coincides with the birthday of one of Genevieve’s late friends; Melbourne-based composer, Luke Paulding. Inspired by everything he imparted on her, we can confidently claim that she’s gone above and beyond with Ben in creating something that’s seriously complex. To be honest, whenever we listen to collaboration songs, we tend to be on the side of caution because most of the time they feel one sided. In this case though, it completely avoids that and expertly showcases the infinite qualities of each artist. You get hit immediately with this grand soundscape that feels light and airy, but it’s not far into the listen that their vocals arrive and add a much needed depth as well. Genevieve is certainly front and center in the mix, but Ben’s deep voice adds a lovely juxtaposition to it all.

On another note, in our experience IDM has always come off to us a bit aggressive or overwhelming, whereas “Life Soaked Reveal” is instantly approachable and palatable from beginning to end. The electronic elements complement each artist in the best way, plus you can audibly feel the immense growth from the first song in this series, “Vibration Angle”. With all that being said, now that we’re in 2023, we’re sincerely hoping for a ton more music in a similar vein to be released. If this happens to be your introduction, we can think of no better jumping off point than with a listen.
