Described by Terry Blade as “sounding like something straight out of a Hozier album, we can confidently back up that tall claim. On this artist’s newest single titled “Won’t Be Around”, ultimately it’s a vocal-led track that focuses on the minimalism in the production to truly bring out the sincerity in his voice. While this was our introduction to Terry’s music, we didn’t quite know what to expect, but he’s really left with a jaw dropping performance here that we can’t help but recommend for everyone out there to give a listen to.
Fully developing the personality of Terry’s Ethos: Son of a Sharecropper" project, this is the definition of an artist hitting his peak form. Immediately as the opening notes hit, there’s a realness and raw feeling that shoots through to the listener, focusing on the space in between right before Terry’s voice shows up for the first time. Lyrically speaking, you’re quick to form your own thoughts about what this is actually alluding to, leaving things open ended to connect the dots. As his newest album begins to take shape, he’s already claimed it’s the best vocal performance so far, which has us unbelievably intrigued to hear how the rest of the record shapes up. Kicking things off with this lead single has our hype levels building, but in the meantime, we’ll be coming back to this frequently.
At just a tad under two and a half minutes in runtime, our initial thoughts were that we wish it were much longer. Though we’d never want to change an artist’s art, deep down it’s because we want more of this specific style. It’s crisp, clean, and bursting with passion from beginning to end, sucking you in as you wait on pins and needles for the next line to be delivered. Terry Blade has really outdone himself on this offering, and while we don’t have a release date just yet on the record, we’ll surely be keeping our eyes and ears peeled for the news.
