Terry Blade unveils his creative & personal record, "Ethos: Son of a Sharecropper"

Less than a month after our review of the album’s lead single “Won’t Be Around”, Terry Blade has shared his first record of 2023 titled Ethos: Son of a Sharecropper. Do yourselves a favor and read our full review below, as well as an update on the artist.

Getting to hear “Won’t Be Around” prior to the album’s release was the perfect setup, however nothing could have prepared us for the greatness that was about to ensue. Lyrically charged and setting the stage within many subgenres of Americana and beyond, Terry Blade has truly outdone himself delivering an album experience on Ethos: Son of a Sharecropper. We’re hoping everyone gives the time to listen and makes the connections within the album’s deep themes.

On the background of it all, he’s set it up by saying, “the term ‘’ethos’ as used in the album's title refers to the morals, values and beliefs of an individual or an entire culture. The album seeks to communicate my ethos to the listener through an exploration of my personal experiences”. Through 10 songs that span right around 30 minutes in length, he’s gone full experimental within his catalog and standards and produced something that fully embodies American roots music. Covering a plethora of ideas in the tracklist, listeners will quickly uncover meaningful topics like self identity, culture, adversity, perseverance, and so many more. The constant and main communicator of it all really is the way that Terry shares his vocal patterns and effortlessly serves up a serious touch that flows flawlessly from song to song. As he’s a descendant of black American sharecroppers based in Colerain, North Carolina, Ethos pulls directly from the reference.

As soon as the opener “Come Home” displays its opening notes, the general aura and vibe of this record is established. It doesn’t deviate too far, however there’s many highs and lows lyrically and instrumentally. Things never quite get out of control as there’s 100% a serious tone that the record has, but it gives a supremely unique perspective on many ideas and beliefs the average person could never endure. Undoubtedly this was an eye opening listen for us, and we know for a fact it’s going to be the same for many who click the play button. All in all, we think you’re going to enjoy this!
