Teacher of the Year crank it up on new single, "Big Man's Undies"
Delivering big on their third official single, Teacher of the Year are back for more with “Big Man’s Undies”. We’re loving it! Read on for an in-depth review of the track, as well as a background on this emerging band.
Made up of Scott McDonald (Vocals), Matt Carr (Guitar), Euan Cumming (Bass), Jordy Carr (Drums), Teacher of the Year are a band currently based out of Melbourne, Australia. After staying busy in 2021 writing, recording, and prepping for their debut EP to come out sometime this year, they’ve steadily released a handful of instantly catchy songs over the past few months. Their newest is called “Big Man’s Undies” and we quickly found ourselves rocking out and singing along after our initial listen.
Without a doubt, the first thing that hits the listener is the sheer amount of fun that it feels like the band is having while playing. Even through the recording and an expert production, there’s a sincerity and genuine feeling that it’s a group of guys doing what they do best. While the instrumentation side of things is relatively lighthearted and upbeat, the lyricism surrounding their discography as a whole does delve into more serious topics such as dealing with mental health issues or taking responsibility for your actions. Life is generally difficult, but Teacher of the Year are managing to bring awareness and have a fantastic time all in process.
Focusing in on their sound, they’ve certainly done an impeccable job of bridging the gap between so many major genres. Kicking off the track we get a tinge of punk coming our way, but by the end the heaviness of the instrumentation comes through for a full on rock performance. The constant of it all are Scott’s vocals and the way they provide an edge and attitude to the mix. Featuring bumping bass lines, bombastic drum fills, and some seriously underrated shredding in the background, we’ve legitimately got no critiques to point out here. The band are well on their way to something special as soon as that EP drops, but the rumor is we’ll see more come before then.
