Taylor Jules unveils her bright & optimistic debut single, "Helicopter" - Interview
Fresh off the release of her debut single “Helicopter”, we got the wonderful opportunity to sit and speak with Taylor Jules to hear all about the specifics. Please enjoy our full interview with the artist below.
Vulnerable, talented, and gearing up for a massive 2023, Taylor Jules is a Los Angeles native who’s come out strong with a fantastic debut single, “Helicopter”. As a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, she’s currently enrolled in the music program at University of Oregon in which she’s continuing to refine and expand on her many skills. As amazing as this song was, every good piece of music deserves an explanation, so getting to speak with the artist and learn all about her background was a true treat to kick off our new year. Both the song and our conversation are a mandatory listen!
Focusing intently on expressive melodies and vivid lyricism, everything about “Helicopter” is the definition of what’s currently right in the indie pop genre. She explained more in-depth about its origins during our chat, but we dug a little bit deeper into her processes of actually making it, what it looked like on the production end, and future experimental projects too. Luckily for everyone who listens, this is actually the lead single off of her upcoming EP (release date TBD) and we’re already itching for more. We can virtually guarantee that midway through your initial listen you’ll be humming along with the chorus and by the end, undoubtedly trying to match vocals with Taylor too.
Through our many times through, there’s something about this song that feels very light and breezy, minus the actual context of it all. Through her optimistic vocal cadence and the bright instrumentation and production that follows, it’s sort of become this perfectly well rounded listen that keeps on giving. For a debut single, it’s always best to approach with low expectations, but sincerely she’s blown all of ours out of the water. With all that being said, now’s about the time to give this a spin as soon as you can.
