Tarraska rock out on their debut single, "Trailblazer"
Review by Austin Sher
Straight from the south coast of England, Tarraska have just debuted their catchy new single, “Trailblazer”. Read along with us as we give an in-depth review into what we thought of the song, as well as a bit of background on the band.
On May 6th, 2020, Tarraska officially made a name for themselves by releasing this incredible piece of rock music that goes by the name of “Trailblazer”. Before we get into what exactly we thought of the track, we’d love to give the reader a bit of background on the band. The core of the band gigged acoustically from 2014 and steadily wrote and played their original material. This included hundreds of performances at a multitude of venues and a major festival appearance. As they started recording this material, the tracks demanded a heavier sound and Tarraska was born. For those who enjoyed the lyrics on the single, “Trailblazer” was written by Jack Lande and Ben Parker of Tarraska. Appearing on the track are Jack Lande (all vocals, rhythm guitar, acoustic guitar, bass guitar), Ben Parker (lead guitar, rhythm guitar and bass guitar) and Shaun Brown (drums).
Listening to the track for the first time, it immediately came across as a classic rock sound that we love so much. According to the band, it draws inspiration from a wide range of musically disparate sources, resulting in a classic hard rock sound that, hopefully, is also listenable. The lyrics detail the struggles of a trailblazer who is outcast and looked down upon for their unorthodoxy, loosely based on the life of Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister. “Trailblazer” encapsulates Tarraska’s identity and best represents the sound of the album to come. We really do wish the band were a bit more confident with the release of the song, because it is so fantastic! It absolutely captures the Lemmy spirit, and is 100% listenable. We really did enjoy what we heard on the track and if this is only the first official song to come from the band, we can’t wait to hear what’s coming next.
Now to the music, the opening guitar riff and drum combo just absolutely shreds. It’s a hard rock song with classic rock vibes. The vocals are extremely strong and really do carry the instruments well throughout the near 4 minute track. The song is fun, it’s easy to headbang to (and encouraged to do so) and it’s catchy as well. The hooks that bring us to the chorus are classic in sound and overall it shreds! We’ll definitely be keeping up with Tarraska as they flourish into a legitimate rock band and hit the tour circuit, once they’re safely able to do so.
