An absolute amalgamation of seemingly infinite genres and styles wrapped up into one dysfunctional song, SpünDay have beat all of our expectations of ‘While My Guitar Gently Beeps”. Honestly, this is about as assertive and attention grabbing as you can be within the realm of music, and with that, we’ve got endless respect for artists that put out this type of music. There’s no preparing for what you’re about to hear, but we can’t recommend it enough, so please give it a listen whenever possible.
On the background of it all, SpünDay has said this song is a “stinging attack on the music industry establishment laziness, inability to take risks on new music for fear of upsetting the shareholders and constant re-issues, repackaging of the same music”. Whether you’re directly involved in music or are just a casual listener, this is 100% a sentiment you should be able to wrap your head around. It really does feel as though we keep hearing a rehashing, recycling, or the same mixes over and over without any real inventiveness or breaking of new ground. What SpünDay have done here is really created a “look at me” moment, wherein this four minute single aims to attract your focus, show off a deep understanding of production, yet somehow carve out a new path for themselves. Some will love it and some may be confused, but we can confidently claim that at first listen, we were sold on the greatness it has to offer.
Filled with multiple vocal samples, dashes of rock across the spectrum, instrumental breakdowns, and countless other memorable moments, this is the statement the industry needed. We had the opportunity not too long ago to review this band’s single “ICE-TV”, which we loved, so you can only imagine our sheer delight to hear something off the wall like this. If anything, it provides a great jumping off point for a listener to explore more of this band’s discography. Enjoy!
