Sentinel look towards a brighter future on "Protect Us Now"
Loaded with meaningful lyrics and a reflective message, Sentinel have just delivered an all new single titled “Protect Us Now”. We’re loving it! Please read on for our full review of the track, as well as a refresher on the band.
From the minds of Geoff Minter and Jasper Reilly comes a project we love called Sentinel. Having covered them in the past on their single “Good Morning to Mount Warning”, they’ve made a swift return on a dynamic song they’re calling “Protect Us Now”. Filled to the brim with current events like climate change and the hope for an optimistic future, this slow burner is 100% worth your time and energy to give a spin.
When he’s not making music, Geoff is a recently retired researcher who’s been sending his findings to Jasper over some time. Ultimately taking those topics and creating music has been the agenda, but the end product has been this beautiful hybrid of both compelling music and knowledge for the masses. Honestly, we recommend everyone out there pay close attention to what’s being said, because while they are located in Sydney, these problems are world wide and need all the attention they can get.
This collaborative partnership between Geoff and Jasper is wondrous and we hope to hear more from them in the near future, but this may be our favorite song yet. Instrumentally speaking, it’s quite minimalistic in the sense that anything more overpowering would take away from the themes. The mix on the vocals between actual singing and spoken word is a stylistic choice that doesn’t usually work too well, but in this case, we can’t imagine it in any other form. Towards the end of the song they actually speak in multiple languages; that just goes to show you the audience they’re trying to attract is everyone.
All in all, this is a laidback track that packs a punch in its endeavor. It’s a perfect addition to the band’s discography and has only widened the scope of music that they’ll be able to make in the future.
