Sarah Rae delivers big on immaculate EP, "Brand New Eyes"
The time has come and our wishes have been granted! Sarah Rae has finally let loose a wonderful collection of songs in a new EP titled Brand New Eyes. Read on for our full in-depth look at the record, as well as a refresher on this talented artist.
If you’re just now finding out about the sweet sounds of Sarah Rae, you’ve discovered her at the perfect time. Having fallen in love with her past singles like “Selenite Soul” and “Crimson Rose”, you can only imagine our delight when we found out that Brand New Eyes got the green light for release. Truly showing off an immense amount of diversity in not only genre, but in the skills that Sarah Rae possesses, we sincerely can’t wait for all old and new listeners to give this one a spin.
While the initial two singles we heard mainly revolved around the dream pop and shoegaze sound, Brand New Eyes is the clear expansion and revolution of this artist’s sound. Incorporating a heavy dose of pop punk that is built upon some seriously clever and relatable songwriting, Sarah Rae instantly grips the listener and doesn’t release her hold until the final moments on the closing track. To sort of summarize, this is what pure artistry with a clear vision looks like. You won’t experience any pointless filler, rather a small set of songs that are meaningful in their execution.
Now while of course each song could definitely be taken and put directly on a mood-specific playlist, we’ll go ahead and give the recommendation of listening to it in full in order to really feel the overall emotions coming through. Each song has basically taken on a life of its own and tells its own story which is always a plus. The artist has labeled some of her music as “boundary pushing”, and while that could be construed as a negative, we accept it with open arms because music is meant to be experimented with always and forever.
Lastly, what we feel the need to communicate is just how well these songs are going to translate in a live setting. Here we are in Los Angeles hoping she’s got shows scheduled over here so we can live out our fantasies, but if she happens to come to a city near you, don’t miss it!
