Roman New Time does it again on 4th LP, "Your Voice As A Cymbal”

Spanning a handful of genres under the umbrella of indie rock, Roman New Time’s fourth LP titled Your Voice As A Cymbal has officially been released and we’ve quickly come to love the sound. Read on for a closer look into the record, as well as a background on the artist.

Currently based out of Indiana, the immensely talented musician behind the musical moniker of Roman New Time has further reinvented his sound and style again on Your Voice As A Cymbal. Taking inspiration from some of the greats like Animal Collective’s Panda Bear, Grandaddy, and so much more, he’s still managed to infuse seemingly infinite amounts of originality into this top tier production. If you’re just hearing about the music of Roman New Time now, do yourselves a favor and please hit that play button ASAP.

At just seven total songs, spanning right around nineteen minutes in length, the artist wastes no time immediately immersing the listener into something that’s both experimental and non-traditional. While it definitely falls under “indie rock”, the genre is ever changing and transforming, however this is exactly the direction that we love to see it go in. As this artist is no stranger to the so-called weirder side of indie music, this legitimately feels like a callback to those times when all of this greatness wasn't out in the open. Seriously, we stand right there with him because we feel the same, but the ingenuity and full on freshness that this album holds spurs a sense of nostalgia.

We’ll mention Animal Collective once again because it really does evoke the same feeling we felt when we initially discovered their discography, specifically on tracks like “Copy And Paste Any Good Feeling” and “Junior”. Through an oddball production, lo-fi vocals, and augmented beats, this is a challenging listen that ends up paying off in droves once you come back for more listens. So much of music nowadays feels immediate, yet we’re all about the delayed gratification in records growing due to their density. This is the definition of that feeling and it’s something we’ve greatly been missing! If anything, it’s urged us to go and explore the rest of his discography more in-depth because there’s got to be plenty of gems hiding.
