RHY delivers endless grooves on stellar new EP, "DUMB FUNK"

Just released on June 23rd, 2022, RHY has served up an instant summer classic on his EP, DUMB FUNK. Blending a seemingly infinite amount of genres but somehow still cohesive from beginning to end, he’s completely nailed it on this latest endeavor. For the fans out there of The Jungle Giants, Remi Wolf, and other artists in a similar vein, RHY has taken those influences and still created something that is 100% original and his own. Says RHY on the background of DUMB FUNK, “it deconstructs my thoughts and what makes me tick as well as what ticks me off. It’s about overthinking, overcommitting, under thinking and under committing, but in the same breath acknowledging the struggle and being cool with it”. It’s always a plus to get an introspective look on one’s music, but especially when you feel like the emphasis isn’t completely on the lyricism. That’s not to say that there isn’t a storyline to follow, but honestly a majority of our attention gravitated to the insane production and diverse instrumentation used here. It’s worth coming back to for further listens to break down the message of it all, but the overall style and tone of DUMB FUNK is undoubtedly a vibe of its own.
Through six spectacular singles that really only get better as the EP progresses, it would be an impossible task to pick a favorite. What we will say is that though they all hold similarities, RHY put a special emphasis on the rhythm section that carries the weight, aside from his vocals that provide an atmosphere too. With so many notable acts coming out of Perth over the last 10+ years, it’s truly not going to be a surprise when RHY hits it big. Music in this style is bigger than ever, but typically holds flaws in some regard, but we can confidently state that this EP is flaw free in everything that it offers.
