MoonMaker succeed on break out debut record, "Desert Places"

Hot out of the gate with an exceptional debut album, MoonMaker have just released their latest, Desert Places. Do yourselves a favor and read along with us for our full review of the record, as well as a background on the emerging band as well.

Currently representing the Chicago music scene, MoonMaker are an alternative rock band that are expertly blending sounds of 80’s punk and 90’s grunge to create something truly special of their own. With each member (Lance, Mike, Brad, and Miguel) talented in their own right, they’re doing their best as a collective to spice up the genre.

Coming in at a total of 7 tracks, spanning 28 minutes in run time, MoonMaker have put together a cohesive record that deserves to be seen in a live setting. Maybe it’s just us and we’re missing live shows like crazy, but a sound like this that happens to be so reminiscent of the past is just begging to be played in front of a crowd. One day, one day hopefully soon, we’ll witness it.

We’ll kick things off song wise by letting you know that there isn’t a single piece of filler featured on all of Desert Places. A problem that we see these days with artists who are unveiling their debut albums is adding way too many tracks at a way too long run time. In this scenario, we feel that the band have succeeded by putting together something succinct and to the point. There’s no points that make you want to skip to the next song, as it really does flow effortlessly from track to track.

As for our favorites, well, that would be quite the difficult discussion to have. We will highlight the tracks that stood out the most. We felt that the album opener “Kaleidoscope Thoughts” was a fantastic intro to the band, but also the 6 minute thriller “Polar” took things to new highs midway through the record. We did mention there isn’t filler, which is basically a codeword for listen to this beast of a record, uninterrupted, from start to finish.

At this point though, we really don’t want to give too much away, because we’d much prefer you take the time to listen. If you’re even the slightest bit of a fan of rock and roll, we confidently feel that this is an album that you need in your life. Hop on the MoonMaker train before it takes off. Enjoy!
