Gilan hits all the right notes on latest single, "Twice"
Kicking the year off with the release of her second official single, Gilan is back with another winner, “Twice”. We’re loving it! Please read along with us as we share our thoughts on the track, as well as a background on the artist as well.
Living in the outskirts of London, Middle Eastern raised singer and songwriter Gilan is mixing things up and crafting wonderful and imagery full music. Having been part of different musical projects in the past, most notably the grunge band Brosephine, she embarked on her own solo adventure in which we have very quickly become enamored with.
Specifically on “Twice”, Gilan let us know that the song explores themes of “meeting people with toxic behavioural traits that you have definitely come across before. Perhaps you let them in because you didn't notice the warning signs, perhaps you weren't finished learning a lesson. Either way, it leaves a mark.”
Going through life in any part of the world, it’s quite easy to get yourself involved in that type of situation. Thankfully though, there’s compelling artists like Gilan who are successfully putting the experience into beauty, mainly in the form of heartfelt music.
Featuring a lovely acoustic guitar opening that quickly crescendos into the introduction of the artist’s heavenly vocals, this three minute track is crisp, concise, and highly relistenable. Instrumentally speaking, the minimalistic approach that is taken here is commendable, mainly because Gilan doesn’t really on distractions in the background to keep the listener interested. Honestly, the only thing that’s really needed here are the vocals, everything else is just a nice little addition. Although, the claps and drums that make their way in around the two minute mark were quite nice, we might add.
Seeing as though this is only the second official single to be released from the artist, we’re downright impressed. Considering that she’s crossed our paths so early on in her blossoming career, there’s no doubt in our minds that we’ll be following along closely to see what’s to come. Whether it’s additional singles, an EP, or full length album that gets put out this year, we’ll just be happy to hear more. We think you will too!
