Manu Francois shares his lyrically profound EP, "Humanity"

Staying incredibly consistent yet continuing to innovate his sound, Manu Francois has made his quick return with another stellar EP titled Humanity. Please read on for our full featured review of the record, in addition to a much needed background on this talented artist.

Caribbean born and New Zealand based, Manu Francois is an independent musician who effortlessly blends together genres all across the spectrum. His latest EP Humanity, released via his home studio Paradise Studios, is a lyrically profound record that was written and recorded entirely on Manu’s 3-string cigar box guitar. There’s a certain purity about it that we loved and can virtually guarantee that music lovers everywhere are going to seriously enjoy this one.

Coming in at just 5 songs, spanning right around 20 minutes in length, Manu immediately transports the listener into his seemingly carefree world that breaks down his personal experiences. While the instrumentation side of things is fairly stripped back, we thought that it allowed for the artist to truly show off his strong songwriting skills. While it’s just him and a guitar, the production on Humanity was crisp as can be and also put his vocals right at the forefront. Of course his musicianship is strong, but his unique vocal style is what will keep us coming back for years to come.

If Humanity is any indication of the rest of Manu Francois’ work, of which there’s a lot of, we sincerely can’t wait to go back from the beginning and listen chronologically to really see how much he’s grown over the years. For us, this was a really solid take on what it means to be a singer/songwriter, mainly in the sense that you don’t need glamorous after effects to lure in a new listener, rather to be genuine.

Wrapping it all up though, our recommendation here would be to start the beginning on Humanity and let it run through without touching it. There’s messages and themes that show themselves throughout the record and you wouldn’t want to ruin it by shuffling around.
