Lucius Echo expands his rock sound with faithful cover of Thrice's "Hurricane"

Review by Austin Sher

As of this morning’s release, Lucius Echo has created a wonderful rendition of Thrice’s “Hurricane”. We loved what we heard! Read along with us as we dive into our thoughts on the track, as well as provide some insight into the artist as well.

Lucius Echo, also known as Nicholas King,  was born in 1996 and grew up living between Newburgh, IN, Henderson, KY and Louisville, KY. His love of music and all things “different” and “unique” was a bit overshadowed in his early years by his hyper-energy, love of having fun, not liking to go to bed without multiple discussions along with the tendency to not complete school assignments! As he got older however, his love of music, art, parkour, free running, storytelling, martial arts among many other things started to manifest. However, this again was overshadowed by his diagnosis with T1D at the age 12 and subsequent teenager battles with himself, others, self-esteem, A1C, medications, drugs, psychiatric crisis, homelessness and relapses. Nicholas ultimately found a love and home in music and his career has progressed immensely since then.

Quietly though, he learned to write songs, create music and become enamored with different genres. He takes influence from artists such as Hopsin, Token, OmenXIII, Billie Holiday, Thrice, Frank Sinatra, George Winston, XXXTentacion, and so many more. Whether it be Hip Hop, R&B/Soul, Rock, Spoken Word, his evolution as an artist continues which has greatly helped him understand himself and manage his times of depression, psychosis, anxiety and sobriety.

For his first venture out into the genre of rock and roll, the artist has put together a wonderfully faithful cover of Thrice’s “Hurricane”. While not being overly familiar with the work of Thrice, we listened to both versions and we have to say that Lucius absolutely knocked it out of the park on this one. His vocals are absolutely stunning from the get go, they’re the clear winner of this cover.

We’ll be covering Lucius Echo’s newer single, “The Culling Stone”, which is set to release on August 31s. After listening to this and seeing what he’s capable of, we have to say we’re quite excited for the journey that the new track is going to take us all on. While we don’t know what to expect quite yet, it’s no doubt in our minds that it’s going to deliver in a big way.

Normally we don’t cover “cover” songs, but in this case, we were so impressed with how it turned out, we had no choice. If you’re a fan of Thrice, or even are just looking to expand your horizons within the rock genre, we highly recommend and encourage you to listen to Lucius’ version, you won’t be disappointed.

Again, look out for our next Lucius review in the coming days! For all things Lucius Echo and to listen to the single, please check out the links below.
