Leo Wetty shares his lively debut EP, titled "Wetty"

Review by Austin Sher

After last week’s article covering “GMO Flowers”, Leo Wetty’s debut EP Wetty has officially released! Do yourself a favor and read along as we take a deep dive into what we thought of the record.

Coming in at a track length of 7, Wetty is the type of record that you can throw on at any moment of the day. It’s not going to take up too much of your valuable time and we can virtually guarantee you’ll hear something new with multiple listens. Considering that 4 of the 7 singles had been released prior to the debut of the EP, it was a total surprise to hear the 3 songs that were waiting for their time to shine. Like we expected, they absolutely delivered.

If you didn’t happen to catch our article from last week covering “GMO Flowers”, we think it’s best to reiterate that while Leo self admits to not having a great voice, that doesn’t always have to be the main characteristic of what makes someone good or bad. The lyrics are catchy, the melodies are memorable, and the overall production on these tracks are high quality. What we love most about Leo is that he’s self aware and always trying to create as much content as possible. The question we should all be asking ourselves is how could we possibly improve or get better at our craft, if we don’t try new things out, especially in the world of music where there’s no right or wrong.

Moving to the music, the recently released singles for “GMO Flowers”, “Parasympathetic”, “Can’t Feel You”, and “Adult Onset Summer Euphoria” are all hits in their own right. Familiarizing ourselves with the existing work was Step 1, but now that we’ve got the full EP at our fingertips, it was really time to dig into it as a whole while listening from start to finish.

All in all, the EP is just straight up a fun listen. It very obviously doesn’t take itself too seriously and there needs to be a place for that within music. Far too often musicians and artists globally spend years and years perfecting, tweaking, and overanalyzing the work that they put out. That’s not to say Leo hasn’t done the same, but not every single or record needs to be the artist’s grand opus that they put all their eggs in one basket for. As far as an alternative pop record goes, this one hit all the marks for us.

With that being said, we think it’s about time for you all to take a listen and be your own judge! For all things Leo Wetty, to listen to Wetty, and to keep up with all future releases and news, make sure to check out the following links below.
