Ahead of her new LP, Beth George releases her thrilling electro-pop single, "Opaque Skies"
Review by Austin Sher
Released today on August 27th, 2020, Beth George has released her new single “Opaque Skies” off of her forthcoming album, Mindfields. Read along with as we break down our thoughts on the track, as well as a bit of background on the artist herself.
Beth George is a London based alternative pop artist, who has just released her single “Opaque Skies”, an electrifying lead track for her upcoming LP. Since captivating new fans during her low-key lockdown release, this single amplifies her established sound whilst maintaining her organic roots as a classical pianist with influences from the likes of Banks, Sampha, Jack Garratt, Massive Attack and Lorde. Amongst the ambience and fierce production, the song portrays a very apt message expressing hope within the chaotic mind which is the overall theme for part one of her upcoming LP, Mindfields.
We’re told Beth has been working on the new album for close to 4 full years now. Through personal progression and working closely with producers, the time has finally come. What better song to lead off an album release than with “Opaque Skies”. Coming into the song with no expectations, we were absolutely blown away at the quality that was delivered here. The first thing you’ll notice is the extremely high quality production delivered on the track.
First things first, you’ve got to be listening to the song on a nice high quality pair of headphones or sound system, otherwise you’d be doing yourself a disservice. Once you’ve done that, you’re good to go! Our first impressions of the song, as mentioned, were how high quality the production was, but we have to obviously point out how well Beth’s vocal delivery comes off on the song. Considering this is only the first single to be released for the upcoming album, it’s no surprise that we’re quite excited to listen to the full thing come release day.
This is electro-pop at its absolute best, we fully mean that. We had no choice but to go back and listen to the rest of Beth’s discography because we were so impressed with “Opaque Skies”, we highly recommend you do the same!
