Lost on the Metro return to talk newest single, "Mariana" - Interview
Staying incredibly busy since the last time we spoke, Lost on the Metro were kind enough to drop in for another discussion, this time surrounding their single “Mariana”. Please watch our full interview below.
For those out of the loop, Lost on the Metro are a husband and wife duo made up of David and Jilly Morey. Together they’ve consistently been putting together a wonderfully inspired blend of Americana music that focuses heavily on expressive lyricism. On their newest single “Mariana”, the two have once again displayed a masterclass level of artistry that relies on inventive instrumentation and an atmospheric mix of sounds and styles. During our conversation, we got another look at the origins behind the music, an update on the band, and even a look into what’s cooking for the future.
The story of Lost on the Metro is actually quite romantic, considering that the duo have been married for 25 years and eventually discovered they make a fantastic team or writing songs and composing music. Since then they’ve released a handful of singles and albums that all have a very specific tone about them, infusing Jilly’s poetry into the mix as well. Generally created out of jam sessions and worked down into what you’re going to hear today, their latest “Mariana” is a lyric-forward effort that was thankfully explained on the backend from David and Jilly.
This song specifically is generally a little more stripped back in nature, but holds the signature essence that ties all of their tunes together. With the addition of a slide guitar adding atmospheric tones and a specific mood, it provides the perfect backing and opportunity to connect the dots within their words. With so much music on the way, this team is always working towards the next big thing. If for some reason you missed our last conversation discussing their album Letters and Landlines, we’re urging everyone out there to give this a spin. It’s a great introduction to the rest of their music and an even better peek into their processes and partner dynamic.
