Lew McKenzie engineers a throwback sound on his latest track, "Masterpiece"

Freshly shared to the world, Lew McKenzie is back with an astoundingly catchy new single, titled “Masterpiece”. Do yourselves a huge favor and read along with us as we share our thoughts on the track, as well as a background on the artist as well.
Based out of New York City, Lew McKenzie is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and producer who’s been creating music since around 2014. With a sound eerily reminiscent of a young Stevie Wonder, Lew has been crafting beautiful music in the form of singles for a while now. Thankfully, his debut EP is set to release as soon as early 2021.
In addition to himself on the single, it also features Carmine Mattia who made some wonderful additions to the already lovely tune. We’ll be honest though, without knowing what to expect having this been our first foray into the music of Lew, our expectations were absolutely blown out of the water after our first listen of “Masterpiece”. Seriously, we’ll be watching the release of the debut EP with a close eye.
As mentioned before, this track specifically was reminiscent of early Stevie Wonder tunes. Moreover, the bass tones are what really set it off for us. Listening on a nice pair of headphones was the best way to experience this for the first time as it really showed off and highlighted the production skills that the artist pulled off. It’s funky to say the least and we couldn’t help but bob our heads along from start to finish. Give this one a listen!
After listening to this track, it was immediately the best idea to get a taste of what else this artist has been cooking up in the musical kitchen. To no surprise at all, he’s absolutely killing it. Fusing so many different genres into one cohesive and signature sound, we’re thrilled that Lew’s music found us.
So what else is there to be said here really? We loved what we heard, we definitely think you will too, and if you’re looking for something fun, original, and a slight throwback to the mid-70’s, this one’s for you.
