Rome's Kings of Subhumans return with rocking new single, "The Upsidedown"

Review by Austin Sher

Rome, Italy’s own, Kings of Subhumans are back with their incredible new single, titled “The Upsidedown”. Keep reading for an in depth look and review of their newest song, along with insight to the band!

First off, we’re loving this song! But before we get to deep into the track, here’s some background on Kings of Subhumans provided directly from the band. The project was born in 2015 from the meeting between the composer, guitarist, singer (neurotika, bless the donkey, biorn) Mark Mendax and the drummer Angelo Palma, who for the first album "Plastic Sinner", recorded and produced by Alessandro Gavazzi in his Hell Smell Studio in 2016, Giacomo Nardelli joins Basso. After the release of the album and two video clips, promotion and concerts, Mark and Angelo decided to continue the project in 2 and produced and recorded the second album "The Past is Over" in the historic Trafalgar recording studio in Rome, Italy. The album is set to be released in September, anticipated directly by this release of the single “The Upsidedown”.

Now that you’ve learned a little bit about the band, and are looking forward to their album in September, let’s get to the music! Like we mentioned, absolutely loving the song. It’s filled with very strong vocals, a fantastic hard rock vibe that doesn’t go too hard, and an overall unique sound that makes them stand out from the rest. The song hits great highs and lows, bringing emotion into almost every perfectly executed scream, although it is still quite approachable for those who may not be into the genre. It’s a perfect starting point for those who are looking to expand their musical horizons beyond their everyday listening.

Let’s talk production, it was beautifully produced overall, we can really hear where every instrument shines throughout its 3 minute playtime and it definitely doesn’t overstay its welcome. Overall though, we’re really loving what we heard on “The Upsidedown” and immediately dug into the rest of the band’s discography as soon as we finished listening. We highly recommend you do the same!

Now that we’ve convinced you to listen, it’s time! For all things Kings of Subhumans and to stay up to date with all future releases, check out the following links below.
