Katelyn Richards shares the details on her 3rd LP, "Inevitable" - Interview
Six years later and finally Katelyn Richards has released her third full length album, Inevitable. Luckily for us, we got the wonderful chance to sit and speak with her to learn all about it. Please enjoy our full interview below.
For those potentially out of the loop, Katelyn Richards is a New York City-based artist who’s directly infusing her endless passion for music into an original catalog of her own. Following up her 2016 debut Light Fight Insight, she somehow managed to top herself on an eclectic, instrumentally driven, and vocal-focused new album called Inevitable. Getting to hear its origin story, how it was made, and what her 2023 is going to look like was truly an unforgettable opportunity.
Inspired by some of the greats like Alanis Morrissette and Jenny Lewis, Katelyn Richards has still gone above and beyond in creating something 100% unique and special to herself. Clocking in at right around 33 minutes and 9 flawless tracks, immediately you’re hit with an immeasurable amount of energy coming from her dynamic voice and bluegrass-esque instrumentals. While things certainly shapeshift in sound and style, taking the listener on a ride of highs and lows, she’s sincerely left it all out on the table in terms of her songwriting too. To be completely honest, we weren't able to really absorb it all on our first listen due to the amount of density and complexity Inevitable has to offer. For one, you’re in a constant marvel of these compositions, but on the other hand you’ve got to come back for more just to attempt to make connections within her lyricism. Thankfully our interview centered around specific stories of these songs, which is why it’s completely necessary to enjoy our conversation prior to listening.
With help on the production from Matt Chiaravalle, we’re thrilled that Katelyn had full control as well on picking and choosing musicians to fulfill her vision. Of course we had our own personal favorites like “City Speed”, “Frozen Ocean”, and “Open”, but this record is one of those that is best enjoyed untouched from start to finish. Whenever you might be reading this, here’s another recommendation to hit that play button as soon as you can.
Additionally, we’ve included the most important links below to listen, follow along, and of course to stay tuned for all major news in 2023. Enjoy!
