Joshua Turchin gives an insight into his life during full Q&A

Taking a break from his incredibly busy schedule, the multitalented Joshua Turchin took a moment to answer our tough questions surrounding what he’s been up to lately. We dug in deep into his Broadway acting, musical endeavors, and so much more. To learn more about Joshua, please check out our Q&A below.

WWAM: Hi Josh, thank you so much for taking the time, how are you doing today?

Joshua: I’m doing alright! I wrote some music earlier today and had a class, so my day is going really well! I'm so glad you invited me to answer some questions!

WWAM: You're involved with so much at the moment and still manage to have a show of your own, how do you prioritize your time?

Joshua: The calendar app. Literally, it has been a LIFESAVER helping me to plan ahead, and now I’m able to make sure that not only am I getting everything done, but I’m able to plan time off for myself to cool down and relax!

WWAM: How did you initially break into acting on Broadway?

Joshua: A LOT of training. My first job was on the National Tour of A Christmas Story when I was eight, and I’ve been acting and working ever since!

WWAM: As far as your work in The Perfect Fit goes, how would you describe your sound to the first-time listener?

Joshua: I feel like my sound would be described as modern musical theatre. I'm inspired by older composers, but also bring a more current approach.

WWAM: Do you have any plans to experiment on that in the future?

Joshua: I do… and make sure to stay tuned for more information on some new songs I’m planning! I love trying out new songs, especially on my TikTok and Instagram. Sometimes I'll post a little clip of a new song I'm working on.

WWAM: You're also involved with some seriously incredible charities, how did that come to be and how are you contributing?

Joshua: Giving back is so important to me, and I am so proud of the work that the charities I'm involved in are doing. I became a Ukulele Kids Club Ambassador during the quarantine part of Covid. I have done concerts to help raise money for their efforts (they supply ukuleles for children who are sick in the hospital) and help out with other fundraising efforts as well. Music is such an incredible source of therapy for so many and the Ukulele Kids Club does such a wonderful job trying to help so many children!

I'm also very involved with Rockers on Broadway. They raise money to support the PATH fund (Performing Artists That Help), which is a nonprofit organization that supports arts education. As a professional performer, I recently performed at their amazing benefit concert called She Rocks in NYC with some other amazing Broadway and music performers to honor songwriter Diane Warren and raise money for the fund. It was a huge success and I can't wait to perform to support the Path Fund more in the future!

I'm also very involved with Camp Wings of Friendship. They have a summer camp for children and young adults of all abilities and I love being able to host concerts and sing-alongs for this amazing group!

WWAM: We get the feeling that you've always had the drive to become a performer in almost any aspect, what was the feeling of that drive as a young kid?

Joshua: I’ve been playing music ever since I could reach the piano keys, and I’ve been addicted to musical theatre for FOREVER.

WWAM: Are there any projects upcoming or in the works that you can freely speak about?

Joshua: I’m working on releasing some more music, music directing some amazing shows in NYC, and performing as often as I can in NYC! Stay tuned for some more announcements! You can also catch me in Season 4 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon.

WWAM: Do you find your process changes depending on the medium? Music, acting, etc.?

Joshua: I feel like my process for learning/writing never really changes across mediums.

WWAM: What does the next year of your life look like?

Joshua: I’m going to keep writing, performing, and posting music, and continue my studies in college.

WWAM: For the person who's going to discover you from this, what is an opening message to them you'd like to see before they dive into your work?

Joshua: I want my listeners to know they are loved and valid. I hope to inspire others through my music. I also love to merge genres and have fun with music, so check out my TikToks where I post snippets of net songs, musicalize pop songs, and share my love of music and orchestrating.
