Ione delivers a heartfelt message and vocal delivery on latest single, "Tell Me"
Review by Austin Sher
Here with her highly impressive new single, Ione has officially debuted her song and music video for “Tell Me”. Do yourself a huge favor and read along for our full review of the music, in addition to a bit of background on the artist herself.
If you’re unaware, Ione is a singer and songwriter from Manchester, born and bred. Ione has had much success as a session singer, backing vocalist, and musical theatre performer. She has toured the UK, Europe, Brazil & the US performing on iconic shows such as Top of the Pops with Manchester band “Blossoms” and Jools Holland with English rock band, Foals. However Ione has always written and recorded her own songs since the tender age of 9. Supported by BBC Introducing Manchester, Ione has seen her music played on BBC Radio 6 and Radio 1 and is ready to release her much awaited new single and EP If you like what you hear, which you will, look out for that EP coming this Autumn, it’s titled The Tide Is Changing.
Penned by Ione herself and fellow Northern songstress Natalie McCool, Ione said she
wrote this song after being concerned that a couple of people close to her were possibly
struggling with their mental health and not knowing how to broach the subject. Ione
touches on some lesser talked about feelings in the discourse about mental health.
As fantastic sounding as the song is, “Tell Me” goes a lot deeper than just the music. As Ione mentioned, it’s a song about mental health, something that is not often talked about but definitely should be. Deep within the lyricism is a positive message being spread around, mainly trying to get the point across that if you’re having problems, speak them out. It’s obviously easier said than done, but it doesn’t mean it’s not important.
In addition to the message, the single itself is absolutely brilliant. The production value is incredibly high, the bass is booming, and Ione’s vocal delivery is top notch from start to finish. Seriously, as fantastic as the instrumentation is in the background, the true standout is how incredibly sharp she sounds on the single. We highly recommend and encourage you take the time out of your day to listen, you won’t regret it.
Considering this was our first exposure into the music of Ione, we had to dig back into her discography. It turns out that everything she attaches her name to is of the highest quality. After you’re done listening to “Tell Me”, go ahead and listen to her Bright Lights EP. It certainly got us excited for what’s to come in the Fall once her next full piece of music is out. Until then, check out “Tell Me”!
