The Revies kick into overdrive on newest single, "Los Invisibles"
Review by Austin Sher
Back with a healthy dose of rock and roll are The Revies! Read along with us as we break down our thoughts on their newest single, “Los Invisibles”, in addition to a bit of background on the band as well.
Formed in 2007 in Monterrey, Mexico and currently based in Los Angeles, CA. The Revies are comprised of Etienne Rosas on vocals/guitar, Carlos Rosas on bass, Keith Snow on electric cello, and James Syme on drums. The band’s musical style is characterized by a mix of classic Brit rock and grunge, with a blend of English and Spanish lyrics, and is heavily influenced by artists like Jack White, Foo Fighters, Chris Cornell, and Foals.
Since 2009, the band has recorded over 5 LPs, including their previous Heartwoken which was well-received by Southern Californian audiences, and has played to both Mexican and American audiences throughout. The band is currently releasing its newest series of singles, starting with the indie-rock-flavored “Stranger”. Recognition for The Revies over the years has earned them a spot playing in several high-profile festivals in Mexico like Hellow Fest and Rockodromo, headlined by Latin Rock bands like Molotov, Enanitos Verdes, or Kinky, as well as other musical legends like Def Leppard and Cypress Hill.
Now that we’ve fully familiarized ourselves with the band, it’s time to hop into the music. Our first impressions on “Los Invisibles” were just how unique their sound really was. Seriously, considering our personal favorite genres of music fall under the rock category, it takes a lot to surprise us or for a song to stand out from the rest. On this single specifically, we were overly impressed by the high quality production, heavy yet approachable vocals, and just how anthemic the song really was.
While listening, it wasn’t difficult in the slightest to imagine rocking out in a massive stadium to The Revies, in fact most of their musical catalogue is built for it. As wonderful as it would be to witness the greatness in an intimate venue, a large show with thousands of people would really let their sound and atmosphere shine through to the fans.
Filled in with sweet guitar riffs, powerful drumming, grooving bass lines, and the vocals that we can’t get over, “Los Invisibles” is surely a winner of a track in our book. With repeated listens, it honestly got better time after time. Considering this was our first venture into the music of The Revies, we can confidently say that we’ll have our eyes peeled for their upcoming releases, as you should too.
