The Holy Veins strike all the right chords on debut single, "Drown"

Review by Austin Sher

Released earlier this summer, The Holy Veins have put forth their multi-genre thriller of a single, titled “Drown”. We loved it! Please read along with us as we share our thoughts on the track, in addition to a bit of background on the artist behind the project.

Based out of New York City, The Holy Veins are a solo project coming from Cason Day, who also dabbles in composing and acting. If you liked this single, which you absolutely will, make sure to keep an eye out for his upcoming EP, Lost My Mind, which was written, produced, recorded, and mixed in his home studio in Brooklyn, NY. It features additional production and bass guitar work by Cameron Bishop, and mastering by Tanner Lackey. You’ll immediately notice that “Drown” provides an intimate insight into what The Holy Veins has to offer.

Equal parts Muse and Charlie Puth, between Daft Punk and Queen, The Holy Veins joins the ranks of Maroon 5’s electric-charged early releases and Harry Styles’ vulnerable retro charm, creating exciting emotional music that embraces a new breed of rock. Houston-native Cason Day formed The Holy Veins officially in March 2020, an amalgamation of simmering songs and lyrics steeped in years of collaborating with other local New York musicians and bands. As he began to build a stylistic library through his work on stage and in the studio, the songs became a collection of something bigger, and Lost My Mind began to take shape.

For those who enjoy music that provides a hefty dose of emotion, cutting edge vocal effects, and deep rooted lyricism, you’re going to absolutely love “Drown”. From the get go, the atmosphere that the single creates almost transports you into another dimension. Seeing that this was our first foray into the music of The Holy Veins, it certainly won’t be our last. Considering there’s so much music these days that sounds just like everything else, it was unbelievably refreshing to hear something like this that was out of left field.

From the opening guitar picking, deep rumbling bass, and emotional context within the lyrics, we can confidently say that by the end of our first listen, we were fans. Knowing that this is the debut single to come from Cason and his powerful project, there’s no telling how high he can go from here. In addition to “Drown” being a winner, it’s got us even more excited for the release of the EP, Lost My Mind. I think that in addition to the song sounding great, it gets a bit deeper when you really listen to the message that’s coming across. It takes so much for an artist to bare their soul, so we always commend them when they do.

With all this being said, we highly recommend and encourage you to take the time out of your day and listen. We promise we won’t steer you wrong.
