Interphase surpasses expectations on fuzzy debut, "Figure It Out"
Receiving an immediate “wow!” from us on our initial listen, we’re loving everything about Interphase’s debut single, “Figure It Out”. Please read on for our glowing review of this track, as well as a much needed background on the artist.
Inspired by some of our personal favorite artists such as Tame Impala, Pond, Beach House, and more, the project of Interphase has single handedly taken those influences and created something entirely original. On this debut single “Figure It Out”, this biochemist turned bedroom producer has kept things light, immensely creative, and sonically interesting. We love it on all levels and are sincerely recommending everyone give it a listen.
Honing in on that dreamy and fuzz-laden aspect of psychedelia and dream pop, this synth-fueled slow burner has become an instant favorite of ours. While we enjoyed our first listen a ton, we found that so much uncovered itself on the production after repeated listens. Honestly, you could listen 5 times over and pick a certain instrument to follow on its journey from start to finish. We were particularly partial to the drums, but the basslines and synthesizers created a world of their own in terms of textures and layering.
On the vocals side, the artist certainly has a delivery reminiscent of Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker, but that’s in no way a dig on a lack of freshness. If anything, that style of delivery lends itself perfectly and doesn’t put too emphasis or focus on the vocals. There’s seriously so much going on in the mix that focusing too much on one thing would make the song feel less complete. At right around three and a half minutes in runtime, you’re immediately transported to a new world and this song acts as a reprieve from the craziness of life.
It really can’t be said enough, but for a debut single, this song absolutely crushes and has us excited for what’s to come in the rest of 2022. Our hope is that a slew of releases will hit soon enough, but in the meantime, familiarize yourself with the work of Interphase by checking out “Figure It Out”.
