Gigi Santos describes her all new EP, "Mercury Ocean" - Interview

With yet another impressive EP released, we got the incredible opportunity to speak with Gigi Santos all about Mercury Ocean. This is 100% a record and an artist you’re not going to want to miss out on! Watch our full interview below.

For those unaware, Gigi Santos is an independent singer and songwriter based out of New York City. Gaining influence  Being by R&B, jazz, Latin, and classical styles growing up, the artist has described her sound as “sensual, yet appealingly melancholy”, best fitting into the Alternative R&B genre. With help on the production side from Rodney Hazard, Mercury Ocean should be a must listen in your musical lineup.

Now we obviously don’t want to give too much away here, because we’d prefer you watch the interview for yourselves, but if there’s one thing you must do it should definitely at least be a listen to Mercury Ocean. Having immediately clicked with everything going on here, the production value, instrumentals, and most importantly Gigi’s vocal delivery is something you’ll instantly be able to vibe and groove along to.

Like we spoke about in the interview, there’s no shortage of genres being featured on the record. Considering the influences on her as an artist are as wide as can be, that’s not completely surprising, however the way that it all came together in a dynamic sound is one of the more impressive parts. Lyrically, Gigi uses a heavy dose of imagery filled emotions and experiences that come across wonderfully as a listener. Gigi claims “If you weren’t able to escape your current reality and feel the emotions being conveyed, then I haven’t done my job”.

Now while the record is seeing its release in May of 2021, the partnership between Gigi and Rodney actually formed in May of 2020. Getting through this time has been tough on everyone, but the absolute focus and creativity that’s been flowing out of them over the past year just goes to show that staying busy and creating beauty certainly isn’t a bad way to pass the time.

Truly, this is a record that we can’t overhype, because the music does it for itself. We can’t stress how incredible our conversation was with this talented artist, but again, the priority is to get into the music and really explore the world that’s been created here. We’ve done the easy part and included all the important links below in order for you to listen and follow along. Enjoy!
