FKFNGZ covers the spectrum of sound on EP, "Transvert"
Exploring an entire spectrum of sounds on this thrilling debut EP entitled Transvert, FKFNGZ (Fake Fangz) proves creativity can come from obstacles and limitations. Please read on for our full analysis of the record, in addition to a brief background on the artist.
Like many other releases over the past two years, FKFNGZ’s music was born out of lockdown. Covering multiple genres but mainly describing it as “post-industrial lofi-house”, Transvert EP emits diverse moods and atmospheres. Straight up, we loved every moment and know that you will too.
Based in Australia, FKFNGZ is the solo project of Frank Kruse, founder of music label Cosmic Coffin. Five tracks in total and coming in at 23 minutes of runtime, zero time has been wasted on pointless filler or down spots. Each song really encapsulates its own world in the sense that although the EP is incredibly cohesive, each song could effortlessly be pulled as a single.
For us, it’s hard to pick out a favorite because they’re all so different in their approach, but we keep coming back to the opener “Extender” and “Qytest”. These songs are extremely dense in nature due to how much is jam packed into each one, which gives an eagerness to go back for a re-listen. Needless to say, there’s so much else to uncover through the subtleties of the mix.
Employing an improvised approach to electronic music FKFNGZ collaborated with two friends Thetamychos and Michael Keady, who contributed heavily on two tracks. The original cover art was created by Los Angeles born digital artist Sam Balfus aka Balfua.
Some of the music feels dark and other parts lighthearted and primed to party to, but ultimately it’s an impressive debut record that’s set a strong base for the future. Whatever FKFNGZ finds himself up to next, without a doubt we’ll be listening to it. In the meantime, Transvert needs to be up next in your listening queue.
