Ellena Storey makes her return on sensational single, "Chasing Myself"
Back after two years of a musical hiatus, Ellena Storey has served up something outstanding on her newest single, “Chasing Myself”. Please read on for a closer look into the track, in addition to a background on the artist.
Leading with her vocals and putting on a completely memorable performance, we’re thrilled to say that Ellena Storey is back and better than ever with “Chasing Myself”. While it’s certainly a lyric-forward song that tells a compelling story, Ellena has still backed it up with an inventive instrumentation and top tier production to make things pop. This was our introduction to the artist, but she’s truly impressed us, and we can’t wait for everyone out there to give this a spin.
On the background of it all, “Chasing Myself” displays a message of “the importance of being independent whilst being in love” and “questioning whether she should follow her own path in life or follow her partners on his”. Honestly, it’s an extremely relatable sentiment and we’ve been there ourselves, but on Ellena’s end she’s in this vulnerable state letting the world hear her situation. Through powerful vocals that are tinged in jazz and soul, the genre-bending going on in “Chasing Myself” makes it all special in its own right. What she’s managed to do in merging a classic sound with futuristic elements is what will undoubtedly have us coming back for more.
Now considering that this is her grand re-entrance to the scene, we’re already patiently waiting for more. We took the opportunity to explore the rest of her discography, and to no surprise it delivers big, but “Chasing Myself” is really the direction we were hoping she’d head. With influences like Nina Simone, Amy Winehouse, and more, she’s taken those inspirations here and made it her own. The loungey, atmospheric, and motown-esque rhythms are what sets this apart from so many other artists in similar genres. We could talk all day long about Ellena’s voice and how it sets the tone, but you’ll just have to listen for yourself to really understand.
