Baba Jenkins explore sound on their relaxed jam, "Slow Motion"

On only their third overall single titled “Slow Motion”, Baba Jenkins are quickly making a name for themselves within their respective genre. Please do yourselves a favor and check out our full review, as well as a background on the band.

Currently based out of Los Angeles, Baba Jenkins are a blues band that are imparting a ton of soul and passion into their music, especially on their newest, “Slow Motion”. With a music video to accompany the song (linked below), it features Sharing Love With Others, a non-profit taking care of and feeding 400+ homeless people on Skid Row every Saturday in Downtown LA. In a great move by the band, a percentage of all sales they generate from albums, CD's, and merchandise, go toward the organization.

Made up of Guy (guitar), Rone (vocals), Ekko (drums), and Kerwin "Skooter" Williams (bass), the four formed during the height of the pandemic, but now have been steadily releasing groovy tunes ever since. Specifically on “Slow Motion”, you can immediately tell and feel the love that went into this, especially on the lyrical end. While there were plenty of themes and contextual moments presented, we were particularly fond of the way that they rose the stakes instrumentally as the song went on. A slow introduction to more sounds and styles made for a much more immersive experience, but the constant of it all were undoubtedly those silky smooth and classic sounding vocals.

We took the time to check out their other two songs, and to no surprise they’re fantastic, but we gravitated more towards the slower jam that “Slow Motion” offers. Every member gets their moment to shine, the production is pristine and expansive, but it also offers a nostalgic feel for those who might have listened to tunes like this regularly 30-40 years ago. The way that they’ve executed to sound modern and vintage is a tough line to border, but it’s exactly the direction we hope to see and hear from them on future singles. Speaking of, they’ve already put out a couple in 2022, so here’s to hoping that more is in their arsenal to be released as soon as possible.

While we patiently wait for more, please go ahead and check out those links below to listen, follow along, and of course to keep up with all future releases from the band.
