Dustin Chapman lets his vocals shine on single, "Words & Alibis"
With his first official single release of 2021, Dustin Chapman is back in a big way with his latest, “Words & Alibis”. Please read along with us as we share our full and in-depth thoughts on the track, in addition to a background on this incredibly talented artist.
Having seen all sorts of success in the past few years, from charting on iTunes Top Country Albums to being nominated for dozens of awards, all of it has been well deserved considering the impeccable output from Dustin Chapman. With each subsequent music release seeming to gain traction in his career, we confidently feel that “Words & Alibis” may just be his strongest showing yet.
Dating back to 2017 on self-titled EP Dustin Chapman, compared to the measurable growth in sound and complexity today, Dustin’s certainly on the right track. Specifically on “Words & Alibis”, there are so many positive notes we had from start to finish, it honestly became a little difficult to keep track. Whenever we cover country music, we always want to make it clear that it’s not always our most submitted genre. However, when artists like this cross our paths and wow us with their greatness, it just gets us in the mood for more just like it.
At just a little under three and a half minutes in run time, Dustin’s vocal output and delivery was the obvious and clear standout from the track as a whole. Productionally speaking, sure, there’s a decent amount of interesting soundscapes being presented in the background to keep things interesting, however a majority of the focus here is on the story and singing. Instead of becoming too complicated and having too much going on at once, the instrumentation side of things took a bit of a stripped back approach in order to let the artist’s vocals come to the forefront and take hold.
By doing this, we felt that it allows for the listener to get a firm grasp on what exactly is being sung to you and to really experience first hand the mature sounding vocals that are serenading you. Whether this was intentional or not, we don’t know, but we’re incredibly glad that this was the path Dustin took. All too often there’s too much going on in a song and it becomes too jumbled or incoherent altogether, but this wasn’t the case and we surely commend him.
This really is a song that we’re encouraging the readers out there to check. It’s humbling, entertaining, and audibly gorgeous to listen to. At this point all we can really recommend is for you to click those important links below to listen and follow along for future releases from this great artist. Enjoy!
