CYVELLA teases debut single "Dirt" off of her upcoming EP "Rich"
Released officially on March 26th, 2021, CYVELLA has made a statement on her debut single, “Dirt”. Do yourselves a favor and read along with us for our full review of the track, as well as a background on this rising artist.
Teasing this single off of her soon to be released EP RICH, “Dirt” has taken us by hold almost instantly and not let go. What could be described as art pop, among other things, is the project of Marlain Angelides, who is much better known as CYVELLA. This creative chameleon created the persona over this past year and the fruits of her labor have finally come to light.
We got a unique insight from the artist on “Dirt”, in which she said, “From the wound timepiece introduction, to the affected English accent of the vocal, “‘Dirt’ is without a doubt a quirky offering. The words and melody were imagined on a plane, during the pandemic. We have spent so much time in forced isolation, alone with our desires, and often with only text to communicate, so our choices of words are more important than ever. There is no straightforward interpretation here, it has double meanings, contradictions and layers to it.”
Now while CYVELLA may be a new project, the artist behind it is no stranger to music or creating itself. Having been in multiple bands and successful projects over the years, she’s taken her talents and crafted something truly unique that is sure to get people talking. We’ll just go ahead and say right now that we’re highly recommending a listen of the single and furthermore already hyping ourselves for the release of its debut EP in May.
As for “Dirt” though, well without giving too much away we’ve absolutely loved it. The alternative soundscapes, a vocal delivery that sounds like nothing we’ve heard in a while, and a futuristic production has enveloped a sound we need to hear more of. So much of the pop world these days is cookie cutter tracks that stay in their lane and don’t attempt to be different or strive for greatness. In this case, there’s an audible effort here to break that mold and create something for the music listener who’s sick of the same.
Mysterious and suspenseful, “Dirt” didn’t necessarily leave us wanting more, rather a follow up in the form of a complete idea. Knowing that the EP Rich is on the way has calmed us for knowing that more is coming. We love the idea of CYVELLA and what is being brought to the table here, so looking forward to a record complete with cohesive and genre-bending ideas is on the top of our summer listening wish list at the moment. For now though, we’ll just be spinning this single over and over.
