Darrell X shares another fantastic new mixtape, "Stay Humble"
Review by Austin Sher
Released earlier in 2020, Darrell X has released his another full length mixtape, Stay Humble. Read along with us as we provide an in-depth review into what we thought of the record, as well as a bit of background on the up and coming artist.
Born and raised in Warren, OH, Darrell X started recording music around the age of 15 and dropped his 1st album "In Da Buildin" at the young age of 16 years old. Over the past decade Darrell has started two labels, one named Dub City Gwop Gang & Early Eagle ENT which he has helped manage and prepare a couple more artist in their journey including J $wagga (Higher Power the Profit), Young Talent (RIP) & Young Cappo (Risktaker YC) (RIP). Not only is Darrell X committed to his own success in music, but he actively puts forth upcoming artists in order for them to receive a bit of the spotlight.
At the moment, Darrell X now has 7 children of his own and recently made the artist name change to be known as Darrell X. In our humble opinion, we think the name change is great, especially because it differentiates himself from so many others with similar artist personas. He’s currently making big waves in the music industry as he publicly has the support of so many influential rappers, such as Cee-Lo, Jim Jones, Fat Joe, and The Game.
For Darrell X, this is just the beginning of his illustrious career. Now that we’ve provided a bit of background on the artist’s uprising and roots, we’d love to let you know what we thought of the music! To begin with, the introduction song, “Intro”, paints a picture as to what Darrell and his community regularly go through. It provides context into his life before he truly gets into the rest of the record.
The mixtape itself comes in at a total of 17 songs at a total of 58 minutes. There were truly so many highs on this album, we had our favorite tracks of course. While the whole album was fantastic from start to finish, our specific favorites were “No Doubt”, “Early Eagle”, and the album closer, “On Point”. I think one of the finest things about Darrell X was how flawless and consistent his flow was on the entire record. He’s definitely speedy when it comes to delivery, but it wasn’t fast enough to the point where you couldn’t understand what he was saying.
Honestly, if Stay Humble doesn’t propel Darrell X into stardom, we don’t know what will. The album features everything we’d want on an album. The beats are original and unique, the production is top notch, and the lyrics are truly hard hitting. All throughout the record there’s a serious story being told, all you’ve got to do is listen closely and judge for yourself.
Overall, we really did enjoy what we heard. From here on out, we’re big fans of Darrell X’s work and really can’t wait to see what else he puts out in his career!
