Dad Junior returns for a new jam-packed track, "Always Wolf"
Making his way into 2022 with an absolute stunner that he’s titled “Always Wolf”, Dad Junior is back with another incredibly genre-diverse track. We are loving this one! Read on for a closer look at the music, in addition to an update on one of our favorite artists.
Always paying homage to his inspirations and influences one way or another, Dad Junior’s newest musical endeavor “Always Wolf” is a short but sweet representation of what this musician does best. As a multi-instrumentalist and producer, he’s taken cues as of recently from Danger Mouse, J Dilla, and plenty more to craft up his newest tune. Featuring infinitely groovy bass lines and samples way out of left field, he continues to keep things sounding cohesive amongst his growing discography. If this is somehow your introduction to the artist, we’ve found this to be an ideal jumping off point.
As for the background of it all, “Always Wolf” is about a “werewolf that can't turn back into a man, so he just lives like one, and vibes out”. If this so-called werewolf is reminiscent of the single artwork that represents them, then honestly he looks like a pretty cool guy that we’d most likely hang out with. All jokes aside though, we do have to comment on how this does feel like an excellent turning point in Dad Junior’s catalog. We’ve mainly reviewed his albums (Dorthy as of recently), so the combination of sample usage and top tier production has always been there. However, this one for some reason feels so much more immediate and immersive, even given its short length of a little bit over two minutes.
Given the inclusion of some jazz piano in the background, with everything else that he’s included, it’s completely wild just how much is jam-packed into one song. Seriously, we’ve probably listened upward of 10 times at this point and everytime we go back, there’s a new moment that emerges or a passage that stands out. That’s definitely the case among the rest of his tunes, but the replay value on “Always Wolf” has quickly proved to be super high.
