Putting his vocals on display to a laid back acoustic version of his single “Summertime Compass”, we’re loving this latest output from Alexander Joseph. Please read on for an in-depth look at the track, as well as an update on this artist.

Following up on our last review of Alexander Joseph and Rakuro’s collaboration single “Firefly”, Alexander has come forth with a straightforward acoustic jam that hits you right in the feels. The song is called “Summertime Compass” and has ultimately led the artist back to his minimalistic roots of his just him strumming along on the guitar. Sonically it’s so much different than what we were previously familiar with, but he’s left us feeling optimistic with a smile on our face. The more we listen, the more we continue to vibe with this heartfelt track.

Written over 15 years ago back when he was in college, the 2022 version 100% captures that playful vibe he was going for back when he was in a band, but there’s still a touch of modern that comes through as well. Considering that the background of it all is a self-described “optimistic message about the possibilities that lie ahead”, it’s wild to think about all that’s transpired in his life throughout the years. No matter the good or the bad, we’re beyond thrilled that this exists in the present and we can already tell it’s going to be a repeated listen for beach days, bonfire nights, and BBQ’s all throughout the summer months.

Seeing as though this really is about as stripped back as you can get, with just vocals and a guitar, you can’t help but focus in even more due to the lack of distractors. Seriously, it’s a great thing because Alexander’s vocals sweetly take you on an imagery-filled journey through personal struggles with a positive outlook. His voice is as sweet as a Sherry wine and it’s hard to argue that it’s not the star of the show. The acoustics of course provide all the mood and tone you really need, but the relaxed nature of the song itself is just the vibe we were hoping for. He’s been so consistent in switching it up this year so far with vastly different releases, so we truly can’t wait to hear what’s up his sleeve for the next one.
