Confidential & Lu'Ami collaborate on mesmerizing single, "What Could Be"
A match made in collaboration heaven, Confidential and Lu’Ami have teamed up for an astoundingly beautiful new track titled “What Could Be”. Keep reading for a closer look into the single, as well as a background on both these emerging artists.
You might recognize Confidential from our interview with him this last February, but in case you’ve been out of the loop, he’s a Brighton-based lofi artist who’s mesmerized us with his production on “What Could Be”. On his newest collaboration, he’s enlisted a partner in crime in Lu’Ami, a London-based alternative pop singer and songwriter who’s lent her dynamic vocals into the mix. Together though, they fit each other like a musical puzzle and we’ve got to overly recommend you give this one a spin as soon as you can.
On the background of the track, lyrically the artists are exploring “the final moments of a mutual breakup, in which both parties don't want things to end and are in denial”. Honestly, we’ve been in that specific situation ourselves and it’s a terrible one to be in, however we’ve never come across a song that so eloquently breaks down the experience. Says Lu’Ami on the single, “Neither of us wanted that outcome. I wanted to just spend that time with him pretending we hadn’t made that decision, because I knew when he left that was it for us." Truly there’s nothing that hits harder in music than a personal moment like this, instead of one that was manufactured for the sake of the story. You’ll notice it immediately, but the immense passion and emotion in Lu’Ami’s voice is what sells the song.
On the production side of things though, Confidential has come in with an absolute earworm of an instrumental that only builds in suspense as “What Could Be” goes on. A recommendation before you listen is to grab a nice pair of headphones to enjoy this on, there’s so many subtleties in the background that pop that you might miss otherwise. Even better is there’s actually three separate versions of the track! One is the “normal” version, the other is the EDM Mix, and the final is the “Slowed and Reverb”. All are wonderful and all are worthy of your time and attention. Through extreme lyricism, flawless style, and the essence of both artists, we can confidently declare this a winner. We hope to see more in forms of collaborations from these artists soon.
