Ciaran McGhee releases his long-awaited new EP, "One Arm Tan"
Put together over the course of 18 long months, the latest EP from Ciaran McGhee titled One Arm Tan has arrived and it was absolutely worth the wait. Read on as we take a closer look into the record, in addition to a background on the artist.
Currently based out of Edinburgh, Scotland, Ciaran McGhee is an immensely talented artist, singer, and songwriter who’s well immersed in the folk scene. Blending together a wide array of genres that span from pop to punk to acoustic ballads, he’s really hit the mark on his newest record called One Arm Tan. It’s the first release since 2017’s Don’t Quit Your Day Job and it’s like no time has passed at all. Of course, we’re urging everyone out there to give this a spin.
Through four wildly diverse songs, Ciaran takes the listener on a sonic joy ride of inspired instrumentation and clear storytelling as he’s provided sort of an update on his life. Recorded at BnB Studios in Edinburgh with the help of drummer and producer Richard Werner, the two sincerely leaned into more of a modern and grand take as opposed to the artist’s last record. Not to discount any past work of course, however as a listener you’re quickly hit with a massive amount of passion and love via its powerful vocal deliveries and fun experimentations. Though there’s certainly a signature essence that all these songs hold adding to the cohesiveness of One Arm Tan, something we’d love to point out is that every song has its own definitive feel and adventure-like qualities.
Inspired by some of the greats like Blink-182 Green Day, and so many more, there’s no doubt that Ciaran has infused his own special sauce into the mix. The opener and title track for example is all you really need to experience to know the rest is going to be a blast, however things do get slightly emotional as you veer towards the end, specifically on “All Things Considered”. While we definitely loved this, we hope there isn’t a 6 year gap between now and the next piece of art released.
