Floe-Joe's Faces show off sonic versatility on re-released 2nd LP

Continuing on in their re-releases, this one dating all the way back to 2015, Floe-Joe’s Faces have shown once again their extreme versatility on a self-titled record. Keep reading as we share our thoughts, as well as an update on this project.

Just in case you haven’t been following closely, ZyridMusic Records is celebrating its 10th anniversary and relocation to California with a re-release of their music catalog across the first quarter of 2023 in chronological order. On this “new” release, or at least to some, Floe-Joe’s Faces second and final studio album of the same name is out and ready for all to enjoy. It shows off a switch in sound from electronic to more soul, funk, and jazz, creating a perfect vibe for everyone out there to dig into and immerse themselves in.

It really wasn’t long ago that we reviewed their record Floe’s Nest, in which we loved it, but listeners will quickly realize just how much of a sonic and productional shift Floe-Joe’s Faces has to offer. From the first track on, it feels like a reimagining of some of the best records of the mid-90’s, yet infuses a ton of modern elements via its vivid lyricism and updated beats. Written as a “light-hearted and sarcastic affair” lyrically, the aura and atmosphere of the album syncs up perfectly due to the help on the production end from Ben Fairey. Before the album’s release nearly 8 years ago, Ben previewed it with his BeatsForSpacedOutArtsyTypes’ EP, setting the tone perfectly with a nice blend of party and after party-esque songs.

Just like the last one, Floe Joe’s Faces, excels in the album experience and cohesiveness from one song to the next. Surely there’s plenty that stand out, but as you hit the play button, a highly specific feeling comes across through its 37 minute runtime. Every song is a bop, easy to chill out to, and ultimately impressive when you consider just how much thought went into fulfilling its vision. Unfortunately this was the final record for the group, but who knows, we see all kinds of reunions nowadays!
