Carolyn Hunter further expands her sound on dreamy single, "Hardest Part"
Further expanding her already eclectic sound, Carolyn Hunter has completely dazzled us with her newest single, “Hardest Part”. Please read on for our full review of the track, as well as a background on this artist.
For those out of the loop on Carolyn Hunter, she’s a folk-pop singer and songwriter who’s delicately infusing a dreaminess into her catalog. With the fresh addition of “Hardest Part”, it follows her dynamic 2021 album Lovelight, which featured the same team who helped to craft that beauty. Needless to say, she’s cast a spell on us with this song and we truly haven’t been able to stop listening since release day. We’re highly recommending you check it out!
On the background of “Hardest Part”, Carolyn is “examining the less romanticized part of the journey people go through in a relationship; the part that isn’t defined by butterflies or a happy ever after, but everything in between”. Once you’re past that honeymoon phase, that’s when it feels like the real relationship gets started. On this song, she’s laid out some wonderfully contextual lyrics to help sum up this experience that so many go through. While we may not always be aware of it, it’s a lot more common than you think.
Instrumentally speaking, she absolutely nailed the simplicity that was needed to help the listener focus on the message. That’s not to say the background sounds fell flat, rather they provide atmospheric tones and help add to the allure of that “dreamy effect”. The addition of subtle synthesizers help to drive the mood, but really the constant of it all is the way that her silky smooth voice carries the tune. You get sucked into her every word and they’re virtually guaranteed to send shivers down your spine. If you enjoyed Lovelight, you’ll undoubtedly fall even more in love with Carolyn’s sound on “Hardest Part”.
