Carlin Tripp returns on laidback jam, "Float Upstream"
Coming up on two weeks since its official release, Carlin Tripp is back and better than ever with an all new single, “Float Upstream”. Do yourselves a favor and read along with us as we break down our complete thoughts on the track, in addition to a background on the artist as well.
Currently based out of Providence, Rhode Island, Carlin Tripp is no stranger to the music scene in the slightest. Having begun back in 1999 with a borrowed acoustic guitar, taking the path to be a songwriter and performer, he’s been steadily putting out memorable records since then. We couldn’t help but immediately fall in love with his newest single, “Float Upstream”, a laidback jam that all can enjoy.
With plans to release more sometime in 2021, it appears that “Float Upstream” is the first track to see the light of day so far. We have to say though, what a fantastic way to kick things off! What you’re going to get on this track is a feeling of lightheartedness, imagery-filled lyricism, and incredibly inviting vocals from Carlin himself.
Though his most recent record The Shape of the Island was released back in 2018, I think we can audibly hope that a full and cohesive record is on its way in some shape or form. The feeling and atmosphere that this newest single has evoked was truly marvelous and an EP or full length that sort of channels that song and feeling would be much appreciated.
From an instrumentation standpoint, “Float Upstream” has a stripped back feel to it at first, but when listening closer, actually features a much fuller sound. Our focus immediately drifted towards the vocals, but the inclusion of acoustic instruments surely made for the feeling of relaxation within the song as well. The describer here isn’t necessarily “care free”, but it’s sort of the mood and vibe we were feeling towards the end. The song put us in a really nice headspace overall, which is why again we’d love an album full of tunes just like these.
Without a doubt though, this is for sure an artist and a new song that we have to recommend. To be honest, we’re assigning ourselves a bit of “musical homework” to really dig into the rest of Carlin Tripp’s discography and see what else of his is out there. We won’t be surprised when we love it as much as this.
With all this being said though, do yourselves that favor we mentioned and give this a listen as soon as possible! For all things Carlin Tripp, check out the following links below.
