Canvas reach euphoric highs on expressive single, "Kamikaze Lightshow"
Freshly released on January 27th, Canvas have just unveiled the first track of the year titled “Kamikaze Lightshow” and it’s an absolute beauty. Keep reading as we share our thoughts on the track, as well as a background on the band.
Currently based out of New York, Canvas are an alternative rock trio consisting of singer-songwriter Jerid Nowell, Billboard-charting producer/keyboardist Daniel Glavin, and drummer Jesse Rothman. Together they’ve truly outdone themselves on what we’re already considering an instant classic called “Kamikaze Lightshow. It embodies the feel of greats like Muse, but certainly shows off the band’s inventiveness and original feeling. Obviously, we’re asking everyone to take the time and give this a listen.
On the background of the song, they’ve said that they’re “investigating how our culture has redesigned itself and how it examines a cannibalistic nature where you are giving yourself to others via social media and in turn, destroying yourself through spectacle”. It’s an honest take on a real problem happening in our society, but in an approachable way that simply breaks it down line by line. In an alternative rock setting, Canvas has also managed to break the mold of what you’d typically expect from a song like this. The instrumentation is bright and vibrant all the way through, but undoubtedly the spark and charm comes from the euphoric highs stemming from the vocals. There’s such a charismatic and warm nature to them, you can’t help but want to sing along the more you listen.
Additionally for those that might not know, Canvas actually own and operate their own label and recording studio, Penthouse Studios, which we can only imagine gives them the freedom to do whatever they want. It’s seriously impressive on that front, furthering the gap between creating their own culture and actually following the directions of their own vivid lyricism. This is about as well rounded of a song as we can possibly imagine, keeping up enthused and focused all the way through, but also crushing it in terms of relatability and excitement. Plain and simple, we love it, and we know you will too.
